The Wind (for deverse; Winds of March)

Would you take this
wind of change?

How cold it blows-
Chilling my bones

It does not dry my tears
but burns my skin
as I bare my bones
In truth’s stark gaze

Am I mourning?
Yes all the things
I let die,
those bits of self
which never cried-

As you face me now
so lost by the darkness
of not remembering

How chilling the gale-
Gusts in remembrance
of the half life we lived

And now
there is even less
still I carry the burden
of all the wishes
put to death
by the breath exhaled
in the forest who sighs.

  1. This part saddens me:

    As you face me now
    so lost by the darkness
    of not remembering

How chilling the gale indeed ~ Good one Lisa ~

  2. "...the breath exhaled in the forest who sighs." So beautifully written, this poem is full of the recognition of life's losses we begin to feel as we journey along life's path. The half life lived, the other's memory failing, the burden carried by the narrator. Sigh. I feel this one, Lisa. It resonates.

  3. the forest of sighs there in the end is rather haunting and plays off the feel of your piece in general...of loss and all it takes with it...some changes are ill winds that freeze even the depth of our souls...

  4. Nice. I especially like "the half life we lived." Makes me hope I'm living life to the full.

But it's kind of creepy that there was an Obituary Search ad right under this poem when I first read it. Thankfully it changed when I clicked on the comment button, but that was really weird. Peace, Linda

  6. Such a cold wind - these lines stand out for me-
    'Gusts in remembrance
of the half life we lived
    And now
    there is even less'
    Such heartbreak in those lines.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful poem with us tonight.

  9. Ms. Grace nailed my favorite lines /as you face me now/so lost by the darkness/of not remembering/. So many people it seems inhabit the moment, live in the shadow of Now, & leave very little for posterity beyond children & debt. We poets are fortunate, as are other artists, for we leave remnants of our creativity behind. We will be remembered.

  10. Such chill and bitter winds of heartbreak and loss. and the forest of sighs. We leave parts of our poetry behind us so we are remembered, but oh, I would rather be remembered as loved by those who loved me. This poem deeply touches me. hayes Spencer is Kanzensakura.

  13. Oh, this one twists the heart, indeed.

    "Am I mourning?
    Yes all the things
    I let die,
    those bits of self
    which never cried-"

Wow. The whole thing, beautifully, achingly penned.
