Becoming More
Isn’t denial
vicious in its
so-called mercy?
Pharisaical-
as we wear its thorns
in our pursuit to humbly
accept tragedy as our lot,
fearing to acknowledge
our own self crucifixion.
If we were to discard
this facade, who would
we really be?
Not the self-proclaimed martyr
riding the stars to heaven
but just a simple human being
on the way to becoming more.
on the way to becoming more.
Those two closing lines just say it all - magnificently. That's all she wrote! Perfection.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Sherry.
ReplyDeletePowerfully written!
ReplyDeleteOh wow Lisa this is brilliant, you've masterfully utilized the wordle and I know it was a tough one! I love the introspective nature and those closing lines are superb =)
ReplyDeleteOh, I like the idea of being a simple human being on the way to being more. Kind of expresses what we all are doing, I think. Hopefullly learning from the past and progressing in our humanity around each turn.
ReplyDeletenice...great question to open on denial and how it really is...and i like too the later question on who we would be if we dropped that facade....solid contemplative piece....
ReplyDeleteSo brief and precise, yet so... human -- love it! Very well crafted, Lisa.
ReplyDeleteYou have an interesting thought process ;)

ReplyDeleteEffective, thought-provoking contrast in your poem! Your words:
ReplyDeleteas we wear its thorns
in our pursuit to humbly
accept tragedy as our lot
and
but just a simple human being
on the way to becoming more.
(Sorry for the mess-up with my first post.)
That first stanza is a poem in itself. This is a wonderful soul-searching write!
ReplyDeleteContemplative and filled with a deep wisdom...especially like those final lines...whether or not we acknowledge it, that is what and where we all are. Thanks also for your comments at Poets United.
