Promises

It’s hard
to face
the passage of time.

I still feel like
the young woman,
anticipating  each
sunrise which still
offers me hope.

I can try again-
Be better,
be more,

weary from all
the years which
slipped by-

Ghosts who promised
dreams fulfilled.

I am tired
but still
I rise and hold dear
all the things I promised myself.

  3. You can, you can, you can.

"all the things I promised myself"...one of the most perfect closes on a poem I've ever read.
