Metamorphosis (re-posted from 11/23/12) In response to Mindlovemisery poetry prompt 16, Life Lessons

Metamorphosis
By
Lisa A.Williams

And so we stand
facing each other
ghosts haunting our past
fear lingering
in the dark of ourselves.
Years have made us strong
we embrace it all-
the old we couldn’t let go of,
the new which
 fills us with hesitation.
We sift through all
 those days we
 breathed away,
scattering ourselves
to a merciless wind
who will transform us-
                                                                   in spite of ourselves.

  2. The old and the new somehow have to find a way to work together....to transform somehow. And yes, in spite of ourselves.

  3. I didn't see your link up so I came here to see =) Change is inevitable, I am pretty scared of the unknown, positively phobic if I am honest. Gorgeous writing Lisa, filled with heart and depth.

  12. Lisa,

Found myself recognising many connections with your words. Hard to let go forever, of some situations.

  16. A wonderful thought, that though me may resist, our better nature will heed the call of the wind, the reckoning of time and change.

  20. The regret in "all those days we breathed away," yes, that really got to me, Lisa. The title says it all, and yet the poem says even more. Clinging to the past is all in vain; fearing the future is often how we do breathe away those days... Wonderful. Amy

    1. Thank you Amy. I'm quite sure most of us do have regrets about "those days we breathed away" I know I do and clinging to the past is definitely a waste of time as well as fearing what the future may bring.

  21. It's often a shock to realise how far you've come, how much you've changed. It all happens so gradually that you can almost never pinpoint a catalyst and yet, your past self is a stranger.

    1. I guess we can't help but be hesitant about the future, the best way is to live in the moment, easier said than done sometimes. Thank you for your comment.
