The Myth of Utopia
By
Lisa A.Williams
Built on the quickest
of sands,
bringing to smothering depths
of delusion.
There is no
always happy,
no perfect story to existence.
Utopia-
anemic suture
to be discarded-
Hemorrhage life's illusions
in blood born honesty-
Feel
all those things
that weighed you down
in that tumultuous
restless tide.
Sink to the sands
of time-
only then can you rise
and breathe.
this feels like a phoenix rising tome. cast off all of the things that weigh you down to rise again
ReplyDeleteHas hues of sadness ,but gives hope in the end.
ReplyDeleteThanks..
nice - a poetic myth buster -
ReplyDeleteYes, no happy endings, but still a beautiful story, the more so for the "only then can you rise". Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteSink to the sands - Loved it and the emotion, a bit sad but nicely captured.
ReplyDelete"There is no
ReplyDeletealways happy,
no perfect story to existence."-how true! But, life moves on...very beautiful piece, Lisa.
Wonderfully written Lisa.. only 'Sinking to the sand of times'.. and bending as the situations require, can one stand upright in reality..
ReplyDeleteSuch a nice thought..
Thanks so much for all your comments.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully written, and such a truthful message.
ReplyDeleteYour final line is the ultimate lesson to be learned in letting go,

Lisa,
ReplyDeleteIndeed survival in life is not always easy. We must sometimes reach the point of sinking, in order to appreciate what we already have....

Oh this is wonderful and your last stanza is the icing on the cake! On The Border
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, sometimes we do need to sink down to the lowest point to rise up again! Hopefully, better and stronger!
ReplyDeleteUtopia is an illusion, I am sure. Your last verse rings so very true.
ReplyDeleteRise and shine, finally. Well said!
ReplyDeleteloved your last verse and glad you ended on a hopeful note.
ReplyDeleteDropping by from Verse First.
Lisa this absolutely wonderful! You are so gifted!
ReplyDeleteThis is so powerfully written and filled with emotion (and wisdom). Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteMyths of utopia are unrealistic and your are right, there is no perfect story to existence ~
ReplyDeleteThese ideals weighed us down, best to get rid of them and start anew ~
powerful ... brilliant ...
ReplyDeleteUtopia was actually written as a satire, not as a "mythical city," which makes our use of the "Utopian Ideal" even stranger, no?
ReplyDeleteThis was strong and true. I love your style. And perfection? Ain't no such animal, and glad I am of that fact... Amy
Boldly, you wrote! Impressively, you shared a piece that bares a soul. A great share for Verse First!
