Pale Butterflies

Pale Butterflies
By
Lisa A.Williams

Feeling freedom through
outstretched wings of
imagination,
soaring over the
green sea
feet still touching soft blades
somehow they knew
they were “flying”.

                                                            Cropped crowns of sun gold
racing against the wind
in the fields
of backyard magic.
Once grounded,
feeling the brittle fall
of harsh words and
 stinging discipline
wings clipped-
yet always there is a wishing
to fly again.

  1. So very true that sometimes those harsh words 'clip a person's wings' for a time; hopefully the person WILL be able to overcome them and rise, rise again. A strong poem this morning, Lisa!

  4. Beautiful!
I love the flow of your words
    and the wonder...
    wings do get clipped-I hope
    wonder still grows
    :D

  5. I love what 'backyard magic' evokes...my mind imagines children playing, dancing, laughing in the summer grass. The sadness that sets in 'when grounded' due to what feels like tragic circumstances breaks my heart...but the desire to fly again has wings of hope. And I hope they soar again.

  6. This poem gently lassoed me in to the wondrous world of an innocent child, then harshly poked me in the stomach, much as the child must have felt when harsh words were spoken! Well done!

  8. Beautiful...this reminds me of a famous quote that I'd love to share...
"It is with words as with sunbeams--the more they are condensed, the deeper they burn. -- Robert Southey

Liked the message it leaves for the readers...:)
