He Sang of Chains
By
Lisa A.Williams
He sang of chains,
wishing to be free
of cheating hearts-
love
he couldn’t let go of.
He sang of doubtful
minds,
cold he couldn’t melt;
lonliness
which made him cry.
A young man’s words
my father sang
in a low melodic
voice,
which brought him
home
beneath a familiar sky.

ReplyDeleteLOVE the ending on this.
The gentle rhythm and flow of this piece add depth. Nicely done.

ReplyDeleteI sometimes feel that too. Lovely and sad.
ReplyDeleteMelancholy but excellently crafted words.
ReplyDeleteSad and wistful and I was pleased when this poem closed with him being brought home "beneath a familiar sky". A gentle ending.
