August

August
By
Lisa A.Williams

August
came and
I remembered the
onslaught of things lost
fading in their sun scorched
fields, withering to fall’s intrusion filled
with promises of redemption, I breathed in
her solemn splendor, felt summer’s sorrow knowing she
would return in her same old lazy way,she
would be unchanged, it is I who would be different.

  5. Ah, so often at the end of summer I am reflective. And so true that August will return again another year...and also true that WE will be different (older!! sigh) every year.

  6. There is something about the end of summer that causes us to pause and reflect, even as a child I remember feeling somewhat sad with August's arrival. The carefree days of summer were gone and once again the beginning of a new school year with it's often monotonous schedule and now I see it as another year passing, another summer gone. Thanks for your comment.

  7. Very elegant! We always wish for summer and her lazy days, but her passing always changes us. We know this and we long for her still. Summer flings, fading friends...you capture it well.

  10. Lisa,

I do love August as a summer month, but lament its proximity to autumn. The end of summer is always depressing, especially here in recent years, when the rainy time has curtailed outdoor activities.
A lovely use of the prompt Lisa:)
