Isn’t she lonely?
Matriarch
pacing with the hungry
pack.
Waiting for her to decide
all things, mother earth
beneath her feet
trembling with all
the world’s weight.
She herself carries
A brood of lost,
half-blinded by the darkness
sun doesn’t show her the way,
familiar paths guide;
dark forests forbid.
Still she ventures
instinct carries
the burden,
bowing to the greatness
of a silent knowing.
Save them.
Save them,
the ancient words
echo between stone
always she hears the
whispering, bone-born chant-
Dying would be easy,
carrying fate
breaks solitary wishes.
I find myself wondering if indeed she is lonely or if she merely represents nature's ways. So much, in nature, is instinct!
ReplyDeletenice...like a mama bear...you dont mess with her cubs....and providing for our kids in in the genes...and instinct...not all have it but....nice take lisa....smiles.
ReplyDeleteI like that she hears the ancient words & whispering, bone-born chant- Maternal instinct would be greater I think ~ Good one Lisa ~
ReplyDeleteI so love " instinct carries
ReplyDeletethe burden,
bowing to the greatness
of a silent knowing."
Very deep. I see her, rising to the challenge.
I thought you wrote this with great conviction, I enjoy your work very much.
ReplyDeletelike any mama, fiercely protective.
ReplyDeleteFerocious maternal instinct indeed - great take on the prompt, the danger lurking beneath the loving. And I love the final stanza!
ReplyDeleteDying would be easy,
ReplyDeletecarrying fate
breaks solitary wishes.
these words remind me of my Grandma who is having so much pain and seeing thing around her with vine and it so sad that I only wish she is taken by god soon
Fiercely protective...nicely captured.
ReplyDeleteThe burden of the the she-wolf.. the leader of the pack, the mother... powerful images, that works well as metaphors too
ReplyDeletePowerful stuff in those final lines! You chose the perfect animal as symbol for your theme.
ReplyDeleteLove wolves. They've been treated unfairly and are much misunderstood as villains of the piece when, in fact, they're very family orientated, mate for life and care and teach their young.
ReplyDeleteThank you all so much for your comments.
