Heart

By
Lisa A.Williams

Your heart

never settled there

in that empty place of silence.

You had to give name to all those places,

all those times which changed you.

Words born of a feeling that is timeless,

voices of those long gone, no longer

able to sing their own song

passed to you from generations

of the questioning spirit which holds the heart in limbo.

There is the occasion to feel one's contribution will go a long way. You've said it most brilliantly Lisa!

  6. I like the echo effect with the repitition of able to sing... voices of the past can be haunting like that.

  7. The last line gave me goosebumps. Assuming responsibility for speaking on behalf of the silenced and hoping that it can give meaning surely evokes a feeling of hearts in limbo.

  10. Beautiful! I'm struck by what I read as a message that we move so quickly, yet fail to truly see our surroundings all the while. This poem also ties in with my most recent posted poem (not the one in this link) of respecting our ancestors....

  14. Lisa,

Sad in many ways, but also true to life expereinces. That which holds us dear, or that which disappoints.
Sometimes it is not clear just how much we can accept...

  15. You made me consider our connections to others, here and gone. The Universal Consciousness comes to mind as well. Thought-provoking piece, Lisa.
